Internship – World Food Programme Nordic Office, from 25 July 2011 – 31 January 2012.
World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. In 2011 we expect to reach more than 90 million people with food assistance in over 70 countries. WFP is part of the United Nation system and voluntarily funded.

WFP Nordic Liaison Office, based in Copenhagen, raises awareness of WFP’s mandate among politicians, think-tanks, the media, students and the general public. The Nordic office uses all platforms to enhance awareness of the plight of hunger and malnutrition – lecturing at schools and universities, participating in meetings, workshops and conferences, media outreach and promoting our work through our own websites and various social media. The WFP Nordic Liaison office also serves as liaison between the WFP headquarters, regional and country offices and donor representatives in the Nordic countries.

Through our internship programme we employ 4 students – one from each of the Nordic countries Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.WFP pays a monthly remuneration equivalent of U$ 618. 

Under the direct supervision of WFP’s Nordic Office, your main duties are:

  • Maintain and expand WFP media network within the respective countries.
  • Translate and pitch corporate press-releases through media contacts and beyond.
  • Edit and update the Nordic language website.
  • Generate and translate content for the website and in social media.
  • Contribute to various campaigns and outreach activities.
  • Place ads and Public Service Announcements (PSAs) in Nordic media outlets.
  • Collaborate with existing and identify new partners re production of Nordic ads and PSAs.
  • Host visits and make presentations to students about the work of WFP.
  • Monitor national media on issues related to the work and mandate of WFP and report on relevant media coverage.
  • Carry out national political surveillance on issues related to the work and mandate of WFP and report on relevant developments in government policies in the respective countries.

Required qualifications:

  • Ongoing studies in journalism, communication or field relevant to the mandate of WFP’s Nordic Liaison Office.
  • University level enrolment throughout the internship period is a precondition (please indicate expected date of graduation clearly).
  • A bachelor degree is desirable and/or skills and maturity gained from relevant jobs or internships.
  • Documented experience in journalism/communication through traditional as well as social media platforms.
  • Verbal and written fluency in Danish, Finnish, Norwegian or Swedish – as relevant to the respective country under which you apply.
  • A good command of written and spoken English - the working language in WFP.
  • A good command of MS Office and preferably experience with content management systems (wfp.org uses Drupal).

Added advantages:

  • Experience working in a national or international organization, relevant to the humanitarian field.
  • Knowledge of Photoshop and/or InDesign.
